HOW DO YOU START GARDENING?
STEP#1: GET YOUR IDEA
What kind of garden do you want to create?
Will it be a flower garden or a garden that you wish to dedicate to growing herbs?
These are the kind of questions that you should consider asking yourself so that you can get an idea of the kind of the farm that you wish to have.
STEP#2: PICK THE PLACE WHERE YOUR GARDEN WILL BE BASED
To be able to successfully complete this step, you have to consider the first step above.
The crop that you chose in the first step will influence where you will base your garden. For example, if you choose a vegetable or a flowers garden, then you must find a location that has access to 6 hours of sunlight each and every day.
Also make sure that the place you pick is somewhere you can see your garden quite easily and act immediately any time your garden needs attention.
Attention may involve removing of weeds or even solving a problem with pests attacking your plants.
STEP#3: CLEAR YOUR GROUND
Of course, this is self-explanatory.
You must kill the weeds located on that ground before you even think of anything like starting to plant.
Also make sure that you dig and level the ground.
Add compost manure or fertilizers in order to improve your soil and encourage your plants to grow immediately you plant them.
STE#4: PICK THE PLANTS YOU HAVE SELECTED AND PLANT THEM
Now you get to plant your plants. Remember, these are the plants that you selected in step 1.
The plants may have different methods of planting.
For example, some flowers such as lettuce and sunflowers are very easy to sow from seeds while others can only be planted as young plants or seedlings.
This will however depend on the plants that you selected.
STEP#5: MULCH AND THEN WATER
Water is essential for any plant to grow.
But sometime, you may not have time to water your plant each and every day.
This is why mulching is very important in order to make sure that your plant has enough water throughout the day.
HOW DO YOU CONTROL WEED?
After you have successfully planted your plants, you will find out that there are weeds which will always want to compete with your plants for resources such as nutrients and water. How do you get to remove these weeds effectively?
USE THE BEST WEED KILLERS
These are chemicals that are manufactured in order to cater for this specific function. They allow you to kill all the weeds in an easy way and also ensure that your farm stays weed free for a long time.
LET THE WEEDS UNDER THE SOIL STAY THERE – DON’T DIG
The weed seeds that have the ability to grow and germinate are the ones lying in the top one to two inches from the soil surface.
When you dig, you tend to bring more seeds to the surface and hence encouraging their germination.
You can make use of a sharp knife to minimize soil disturbance when removing weed from your farm.
MULCH YOUR PLANT
Mulching has more than one advantage. It helps the soil retain its water and also helps in smothering weeds.
It helps in keeping your garden weed free.
KEEP THE PLANT SPACING IN SUCH A WAY THAT THEIR SHADE KILLS THE WEEDS
When you close space your plants, it allows the plants to grow and create a shade above all the emerging weeds. This makes sure that the weeds lack enough sunlight.
No plant can live without sunlight. This makes sure that the weed wither and die leaving your garden weed free.
MAKE SURE THAT YOU WATER WEEDS ONLY – AVOID WATERING WEEDS
When you are watering your plants, make sure that you aim at watering plants only and excluding the weeds.
This can be done through the use of drip irrigation which ensures that water only drips at the base of your plant.
Weed will wither and die with time leaving your plants to thrive.
