HOW TO TRANSFORM INTO A PRO WRITER

PRO WRITER

I get it. In high school, you received all those accolades from all your teachers once you finished working on each and every piece of writing. Be it a poem, an essay and if we go back, like really back, a composition. Now you have finished school and joined the real world and you are very determined to start earning from your art and craft. You open your browser and using a search engine you do some research on how to make some cash writing.

People are making millions. The web tells you so. The blogs you peruse tell you about Stephen King. He made more than 50 million dollars last year alone. You close your eyes and you start imagining all the things that you are gonna buy when your career kicks off.

So, you start your writing career.

After going at it for several months, you start wondering, where are all the millions that this writing career had promised.

Is writing a lie? Is writing for me or should I abandon it completely?

I will give you the answer.

Writing is not a lie. People are making millions right now.

You are still not doing it because there is something wrong with your writing.

And that is what his blog is here to change.

It’s here to catapult you into Bill Gates of writing.
Are you ready?

HOW TO MAKE THE TRANSFORMATION FROM A MEDIOCRE WRITER TO A PRO WRITER

1.    IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU IT’S ABOUT THEM

You start writing your writing career with the mentality that you can write whatever you feel like writing and if they don’t like it? Well, screw them!

I will tell you what?

That is the wrong mentality. Not unless you are going to buy your own work.

And I guess you won’t ?.

Well, you can buy it, but is that even logical?

Maybe you read somewhere that all you have got to be is be you. The rest doesn’t matter, right?

Wrong!

Writing is not about you. It’s about them.

“Them” here pointing towards those people who you are writing for.

You have got to find out what makes them tickle.

What makes them feel elevated.

Then you have got to give these people exactly that.

That’s how you will make them want to buy your work.

2.    DO YOU EVEN READ?

If you don’t read, what do you write about?

Writers are what can be essentially called bookworms.

Read, read and read some more. That way you get to realize what you are doing wrong when you compare yourself with other writers.

Whatever you read, ask yourself, what makes me want to continue reading this?

What’s so special with this book, blog post or even Facebook post that makes me want to stare at it for this wrong?

In school, we were taught that copying is cheating but I am going to tell you this: In life, copying is the fastest way to success.

Copy whatever you see there and transfer this to your own writing.

I am sure you will start seeing your own writing get elevated.

3.    NO, YOU DON’T KNOW IT ALL INFACT YOU KNOW NOTHING

You always got the accolades in high school.

You got a grade A in English.

Letting me tell you one thing:

Being good at school and expecting it to happen the same way in real life is like doing ten pressups every morning for one month and then heading out to compete for mr. Universe. Totally Lame.

You know how to put together different words and form a sentence.

You are certain that everything that you are doing is write.

There is no writer like you in the whole world. You are the only one with the best skills. The world is just unfair such that it is refusing to send you people who will like your work and make you a millionaire overnight.

Wrong!

If you knew it all, you wouldn’t have landed on this article in the first place.

You have got to realize that you need to have an open mind so that you can learn from everyone.

That is the only way that you can learn how to fix your writing mistakes and make your writing career great.

4.    YOU GOTTA BE MORE THAN A WRITER. COME ON MARKETING, MARKETING

You have just finished laboring on your book.

I get it.

It took you hundreds of sleepless nights to just finish it.

I get it.

The process of editing tortured you beyond imagination.

But, now that it is resting on your laptop, how is the world supposed to know about it?

You have to be more than a writer.

You have to learn how to market your product. Otherwise, no one will ever know that even exists.

5.    DON’T YOU LET REJECTION DISCOURAGE

You take your manuscript to the first publisher.

The answer you get?

A big fat NO!

You move to the second, third and fourth publisher and the story is the same.

NO! NO! and more NO!

So, you give up.

Come on;

Do I have to tell you that even the most prominent authors had to be rejected numerous times before their pieces of writing could get accepted?

Look at these statistics:

  • E CUMMINGS had 14 publishers reject her work
  • FRANK HERBERT was rejected 20 times
  • K ROWLING was rejected by 12 publishing houses
  • JACK CANFIELD AND MARK VICTOR HANSEN chicken soup got rejected 134 times
  • STEPHEN KING RECEIVED DOZENS OF REJECTIONS FOR HIS FIRST NOVELS

So why the hell are you just giving up right now when you are just one rejection away from getting that book of yours published?

Wake up, go get rejected one more time!

WHEN PEOPLE TELL YOU NO, IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU CAN’T DO IT, IT JUST MEANS THAT YOU CAN’T DO IT WITH THEM, PERIOD!

6.    BE CONCISE

Don’t try and beat around the bush.

People in this world now have very limited times.

They will need to know what you are talking about in your write ups within the shortest time possible.

If you do otherwise you decide not to give it to them straight, do you what will happen?

No?

I will tell you…

They will get bored.

Even if you decide to change in the future and be more concise your work, they wont consider buying from you…

The reason being very simple.

Their subconscious mind already knows that you are boring.

So, please, start today.

Not tomorrow.

7.    REVISE AND PROOF READ YOUR WORK

I know that you already know this.

But I had to put it here, so that you don’t say that I never told you about it.

Remove those typos.

Remove those words that don’t fit in.

Remove those phrases that have no purpose.

CLOSING WORD

I am grand that you have made it this far. It shows that you are serious to make your writing career a hell lot more awesome.

Do you think that there is something that I should have written about but did not write about?

Tell me about that in the comments down below.

Happy writing folks!

  1. Thanks for the boost. Especially Marketing, Marketing! I am terrible at that. The phrase ‘fake it till you make it’ comes to mind but I still hold back saying to myself that I will wait until my writing has progressed. From next week I will make a huge effort to market myself. That’s a promise.

    1. Hi Chris.

Thanks for stopping by and I appreciate your honesty in this comment.

Don’t hold back any more. Don’t wait until your writing has progressed. You will get more profound knowledge on how to get better at writing once you market your work because criticism is the best teacher that I have known up to now.

I trust you will deliver on the promise though.

      Cheers and happy marketing!
